STEM Content Knowledge
STEM K12 13: Students demonstrate STEM content knowledge representative of STEM literacy outcomes that prepare them for the next level of learning and work.
Impact Narrative:
Scholars participate in two PBL showcases throughout the school year. During the showcase, students articulate what they have learned and their experiences during the PBL. Stanton provides learning experiences and opportunities for all students to obtain a well-built academic foundation through interdisciplinary instruction. We encourage our students to think critically, be effective problem-solvers, and engage in creativity daily.
Throughout our STEM journey, we have identified learning standards within the STEM disciplines that are aligned to promote student achievement.
Our core approaches are to welcome, empower, and encourage F. L. Stanton scholars and teachers to engage in explicit/ reflective practices which promote hands-on, real-world, and project-based learning experiences. In previous years math has been ingrained throughout all core content areas (i.e., ELA, reading, science, and social studies).
Areas of Strength:
An area of strength that enhances F. L. Stanton’s STEM program is this year; we expanded this process to integrate physical education and dance.
Areas of Opportunity:
An opportunity for improvement is to continually increase the integration of science content across the curriculum through the Engineering Design Process (EDP).
Initiatives/Actions:
The Instructional Leadership Team meets weekly to monitor students’ data in core subject areas.
Common formative assessments are administered weekly to collect data on core content subjects.
Students are administered Performance-Based Assessment in Math and Science to demonstrate mastery of grade-level standards and learning targets.
