Leadership

STEM K12 4: The school/program has established a shared vision for STEM and has leadership structures to support effective implementation.

Impact Narrative:

No one needs a title to be a leader! Frank Lebby Stanton Elementary School is an optimal learning environment where educators work collaboratively to maintain the STEM Spark to prepare scholars for a role of interest in STEM in the thriving metropolis of Atlanta and beyond. The Stanton leadership team worked collaboratively to write a shared STEM Vision. The STEM Committee was established to carry out the responsibilities related to planning, implementing, and evaluating events and activities to enrich science, technology, engineering, and math education for our scholars.

The STEM Committee consists of school administrators, Instructional Coaches, grade-level teachers, and the STEM Coordinator. Stanton scholars are challenged through an integrated curriculum that emphasizes math, science, and literacy.

Due to the collective ownership of stakeholders, tasks required to continue the implementation of the STEM Program during and especially after the loss of the current STEM Program Specialist were assigned and voluntarily owned by teachers and instructional leaders.

Notably, leading the STEM Program initiative afforded Aspiring Leaders the latitude to invest their efforts into planning, data analysis, and the overall implementation of PBL Units. The “lift,” though heavy, was manageable due to individual and collaborative stakeholders offering their time and talents for the betterment and sustainability of a rigorous, real-world STEM Program.

Areas of Strength & Opportunity:

Collective Responsibility is an area of strength; however, data collection and analysis are areas of improvement.  Specifically, a continuous cycle of improvement will be used to analyze assessment, interest, participation rates, perception, climate, culture, and  leadership data to capture the voice of stakeholders regarding STEM representation, leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion to ensure programmatic alignment to standards-based instruction. These practices should assist us with moving the progression needle across all content areas, while meeting the annually established strategic goals and fulfilling our school aligned STEM  Mission and Vision

Initiatives/Actions:

  • STEM Leadership Team established with roles identified

  • Work collaboratively to update STEM Vision
