Project & Inquiry-Based Learning
STEM K12 7: Students engage collaboratively in authentic inquiry during ongoing units of study.
Impact Narrative:
All students at F. L. Stanton Elementary School are involved in problem-inquiry-driven STEM experiences. STEM experiences are driven by PBLs that encourage critical thinking that undergirds creativity of thought evident in the engineering design process. Students participate in monthly STEM and maker space challenges and work collaboratively to solve real-world problems. The intentionality of PBL planning and implementation has developed a culture of inquiry in which students are aware of problem inquiry-based expectations.
Areas of Strength:
An area of strength involves planning and implementing monthly and annual inquiry-based learning opportunities.
Areas of Opportunity:
Areas of improvement will include using student performance rubrics to assist students in heightening their understanding of authentic inquiry and increase the use of surveys to collect data to evaluate PBL planning and implementation effectiveness.
Initiatives/Actions:
Students will engage in at least 2 inquiry-based PBL’s per year.
FLS offers monthly enrichment activities.
We survey stakeholders to gain feedback to continuously improve enrichment and extracurricular activities.
